The PUMit system : the Market
The founders of UbicMedia
have a forward vision of the market. In the next 3 years, multimedia
electronics, from TVs and flat screens through stereo systems and
personal stereos to game consoles and set top boxes, will communicate
with and be connected to the Internet.
A fundamental change has begun: the internet-connected consumer is
opting more and more for ‘content use’ and not
‘hardware possession’. What’s the point of buying a
CD or DVD if you’re only going to listen to it or watch it 2 or 3
times before it collects dust on a shelf somewhere? Why not just simply
click on whatever you want to watch or listen to, and pay for that use?
After all, who cares if the content is on a server that’s
physically just around the corner, or if it’s somewhere on the
far side of the planet? Pay-per-use is catching on, for music and
movies alike: consumers are moving more and more to a rental mentality,
with the complementary idea of the advertiser giveaway. Instead of
hurting the market, this sea-change will energize it, and will inject
value back into the hardware.
We believe it’s truly the time to take advantage of the power of
the net, especially peer-to-peer networks, in order to dramatically
increase the visibility of cultural and entertainment content by
providing an innovative, intelligent and flexible service which favors
the emergence of new editorial lines.
This new style of editing will take the input of the consumers and add
it to the creative mix of the producers, editors, and creators to
develop new economic models which can continuously evolve and adapt to
the expectations of the customers.
Our ambition is to give all of the creators, producers, and editors
working in multimedia the advantages of our PUMit system: PUMit’s
innovative approach lets them distribute their content on a large
scale, notably through viral marketing and social networks, and lets
them closely track and analyze the use of the content so they can take
full advantage of the net for their editorial and creative work without
having to worry about the current and future market value of their
products.
